Overview
Equans delivers a comprehensive repairs and maintenance service on behalf of Manchester City Council, supporting more than 13,000 council-owned homes across the city. Through this three-year contract, worth over £33 million, we help the Council provide high‑quality, safe and comfortable homes for local residents.
Each year, Equans maintains and repairs approximately 12,000 properties, while also refurbishing and adapting homes to ensure they remain suitable for the diverse needs of Manchester’s communities. Our focus is on delivering reliable, high‑quality housing services that enhance daily living, support independence, and contribute to well-maintained neighbourhoods across the city.
Our work
Keeping the city's housing in top condition
To help Manchester City Council keep its housing stock in excellent condition, Equans delivers a substantial programme of repairs and safety checks each year. Through this partnership, we complete around 55,000 repairs annually, ensuring residents have access to well‑maintained, good‑quality homes that support their day‑to‑day needs. We also prioritise safety, carrying out approximately 11,000 gas service inspections to properties every year to help keep residents protected in their homes.
Battling the blight of empty properties
Empty homes can have a significant negative impact on neighbourhoods, often becoming hotspots for crime and antisocial behaviour. To counter this, Equans refurbishes over 500 properties each year, bringing them back into use as quality, comfortable homes for local families. This work not only increases available housing stock but also helps reduce the issues commonly associated with long‑term vacant properties.
Facilitating a strong community
Equans goes beyond housing improvements by investing in employment, skills and community support across Manchester. Each year, we commit to maintaining 15 apprenticeship positions, providing training, on‑the‑job experience and access to education to help individuals build successful careers in the industry. Our teams also contribute 1,000 hours of volunteering annually to local causes, enabling colleagues to give back to organisations they care about. In addition, we donate over £35,000 each year to community initiatives, helping provide aid to good causes, helping ease financial pressures for local charities and supporting the vital work they deliver.
