Mission critical assets and embedded energy systems
Mission critical assets and embedded energy systems
The context
Organisations with mission critical assets face a complex balancing act.
- Their embedded and decentralised energy systems including CHP, heat networks, plant rooms, HV/LV electrical systems and energy centres must deliver uninterrupted performance while meeting strict financial, regulatory and environmental targets.
- Many estates and industrial facilities are constrained by ageing infrastructure, rising energy costs, and limited capital.
Overview
Equans supports critical infrastructure and embedded energy systems with intelligent, data-led solutions and trusted technical delivery - helping to reduce risk, lower cost and accelerate decarbonisation across mission critical assets.

- Critical electrical infrastructure failures.
- Rising maintenance and energy costs.
- Rising lifecycle costs across M&E and energy systems.
- Limited flexibility to upgrade plant rooms or invest in new infrastructure.
- Pressure to decarbonise and meet ESG and compliance goals.
- Gaps in performance data across energy infrastructure systems.
- Limited real-time visibility across on-site energy assets.
How we help
- We provide intelligent, end-to-end support for embedded and decentralised energy systems.
- We operate, maintain and optimise mission critical infrastructure, including mechanical, electrical, CHP, heat networks and other embedded systems
- We work across sectors - from hospitals and estates to industrial energy centres - to maintain uptime and reduce lifecycle costs.
The value we add:
Our capabilities
We provide full-service energy infrastructure support across critical environments - from day-to-day operation to long-term decarbonisation. Our approach is built on five core capabilities:
Real-time monitoring for CHP, heat networks, HBVAC, HV/LV electrical systems and plant rooms, analytics and diagnostics that turn live data into actionable insight - predicting failure, improving asset utilisation and evidencing performance.
We plan and deliver carbon reduction measures and adaptation strategies that align with your operational, compliance and ESG goals.
Design, build, upgrade and optimisation of energy centres, plant rooms, mechanical, electrical and HVAC systems - delivered with minimal disruption.
Experience across CHP, solar PV, heat pumps, hydrogen, hybrid systems, district heating, backup generation and battery storage - selecting the right solution for your infrastructure.

Frequently asked questions
Mission critical energy systems are the mechanical, electrical and on-site generation assets that must operate continuously to protect essential services. This includes CHP, heat networks, energy centres, HVAC, plant rooms and HV/LV electrical infrastructure.
Failure or downtime can disrupt operations, impact safety, increase cost and compromise compliance — which is why specialist operation and maintenance is essential.
Improving resilience requires a combination of predictive maintenance, real-time monitoring, lifecycle planning and regular optimisation of assets such as CHP, heat pumps, boilers, energy centres and electrical systems.
A data-led, 24/7 O&M approach helps prevent unplanned failures, reduce lifecycle costs and ensure systems meet regulatory and performance requirements.
We provide full-service support for energy centres and distributed on-site energy portfolios — including day-to-day operation, planned and reactive maintenance, performance monitoring, CHP and heat network optimisation, HV/LV electrical support, lifecycle upgrades and integrated decarbonisation planning.
Our teams ensure continuous, compliant and efficient system performance.
