Embedded energy and mission critical engineering that protects industrial productivity

The challenge

Energy-intensive operations depend on resilient energy systems where even short periods of downtime have significant safety, financial and reputational impact. Operators must balance productivity, cost control and sustainability within often highly complex infrastructure.

Our approach

At Equans, we help industrial organisations turn embedded and on-site energy systems, regardless of age into a source of operational resilience and competitive advantage. We deliver 24/7 reliability and performance, reduced energy intensity and measurable ESG performance, without compromising production.

We deliver industrial energy resilience and asset lifecycle management through:

  • 24/7 operation and maintenance of process-critical and mission critical assets.
  • Energy centre operations, including CHP, hybrid and decentralised energy systems.
  • Predictive maintenance and real-time performance visibility to minimise disruption.
  • Integration of electrification, energy recovery and digital optimisation.
  • Asset upgrades aligned to carbon reduction, efficiency and compliance goals.

Frequently asked questions

What are mission critical assets in industrial environments?

In industrial settings, mission critical assets include energy centres, process utilities, electrical infrastructure and control systems that directly support production. Failure of these systems can result in safety risks, lost output and significant financial impact.

What is embedded energy and how does it support industrial resilience?

Embedded energy refers to on-site energy generation and storage such as CHP, hybrid systems, solar and batteries (battery energy storage systems – BESS). These systems improve energy resilience, reduce exposure to grid instability and support continuous production.

How do you reduce downtime in mission critical industrial operations?

Downtime is reduced through predictive and condition-based maintenance, real-time performance monitoring and proactive asset lifecycle management. This approach identifies potential issues early and allows intervention before failure occurs.

Why is energy centre operation critical for energy-intensive industries?

Energy centres provide reliable power, heat and cooling for industrial processes. Professional energy centre operation ensures efficiency, compliance and resilience, while supporting cost control and carbon reduction objectives.

How can industrial sites improve ESG and carbon performance without impacting productivity?

By optimising embedded energy systems, improving efficiency and integrating low-carbon technologies, organisations can reduce emissions while maintaining output. Data-led reporting also provides clear ESG evidence for stakeholders.

Do embedded energy and CHP systems still make sense for net zero and decarbonisation strategies?

Yes. When properly optimised and integrated with electrification and renewables, CHP and embedded energy systems can play a transitional role in improving efficiency and reducing emissions while supporting operational resilience.
