Equans wins major energy efficiency refurbishment contract for Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea
Equans, has been appointed by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to deliver the refurbishment of more than 300 homes.
The project will see properties at the Silchester Estate in West London have upgrades to kitchens, bathrooms, windows, electrics, boilers, ventilation, new lifts and new roofs, making the homes more energy efficient.
The 320 properties are spread over four blocks (Dixon House, Frinstead House, Markland House and Whitstable House) and Equans has committed to a comprehensive social impact programme to support in leaving a lasting legacy for the local community.
The programme will create nine jobs and a further seven apprenticeships for residents, as well as providing training and upskilling for local businesses. £10,000 will also be invested in the way of sponsorship for local events; and IT equipment will be provided to improve digital access and inclusion in the local community.
James Cousins, Regeneration Director for Equans UK and Ireland said: “We are delighted to be working with Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to carry out this extensive refurbishment scheme. It’s an exciting project, providing residents with modern, more energy efficient high-quality homes, whilst delivering jobs, skills and support for SMEs for the local people and the wider community.”
Councillor Sof McVeigh, Lead Member for Housing Management, Housing Safety and Building New Homes at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, added: "We are looking forward to working with Equans to deliver over 300 refurbished homes for our residents on the Silchester Estate. It is vital that residents are brought along on this journey with us to ensure we are delivering more modern and energy-efficient homes."
The project is expected to begin in October 2023 and last for 104 weeks.
