Equans overhauls leisure centre with PSDS funding
Equans has worked alongside Doncaster Council to improve the energy efficiency of Askern Leisure Centre in the city.
The work was carried out under two phases with the first using funding from the Government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme to replace the centre’s coal-fired boiler with air source heat pumps, reducing carbon emissions from the building by up to 4,000 tonnes.
A second phase of work has included a full refurbishment of the building - the centre is now better insulated and has a new warm roof, energy-efficient windows and doors and LED lighting – all helping to reduce the building’s environmental impact.
Askern Leisure Centre has also been made more accessible to the whole community with the addition of ‘Changing Places’ facilities and refurbished changing areas.
A new café area has been created and the pool has been re-lined, refilled and the pool hall has been fully re-clad.
