Equans and Leeds City Council deliver warm homes boost for Seacroft residents
Equans has secured a contract with Leeds City Council to make over 270 council-owned homes in Seacroft more affordable to heat.
As part of the works, Equans will install external wall and loft insulation to improve thermal performance and reduce heat loss, helping residents save up to £370 a year on energy bills. The upgrades will also enhance ventilation, supporting better indoor air quality and reducing the risk of damp and mould.
The improvements are expected to lift properties’ Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings from an E or D to at least a C - cutting around four tonnes of CO₂ emissions per home each year, equivalent to the carbon absorbed by 200 young trees.
Work will begin, following detailed energy performance surveys carried out by Equans’ expert retrofit teams.
Sean Corcoran, Regional Director at Equans UK & Ireland, said: “Improving the energy efficiency of existing social housing is one of the most impactful ways we can tackle carbon emissions in the UK. Through this project, we’re helping residents live in warmer, more affordable homes while making real progress towards regional and national net zero goals.”
Councillor Jess Lennox, Leeds City Council’s Executive Member for Housing, added: “It’s great that preparations for these important improvements to council housing in Seacroft are continuing to progress at pace. It is our hope that the scheme will make a really positive difference to the lives of tenants whose homes will become easier and cheaper to heat.I’m delighted that we have been able to partner with Equans on this project, which will also support Leeds’s net zero ambitions.”
The Seacroft homes form part of a wider three-year programme to improve the energy efficiency of 460 council-owned properties across Leeds.
Equans also continues to deliver a range of repairs, maintenance and refurbishment services on behalf of Leeds City Council as part of its ongoing partnership to create sustainable, efficient and resilient communities.
