Overview
Transforming approximately 1,000 homes across the North West, North East and Cumbria, in terms of both appearance and thermal performance through the implementation of various energy efficiency measures.
Our work
Each property was assessed under PAS2035 standards to determine the most beneficial measures (predominantly with a fabric first approach) as well as determining the most effective use of client and SHDF funding. These measures varied by property but typically included:
- External wall insulation with a variety of rendered finishes including standard or brick effect finish
- Cavity wall insulation
- Loft insulation
- Ventilation and associated works
- Replacement windows and doors
- Roofing and roofline extensions
All works were completed using our experienced and approved supply chain, in line with PAS2030 Trustmark accreditation. Where possible, local contractors and staff were engaged to ensure that the economic benefits of the project remain within local communities.
The decarbonisation of homes on such a large scale was achieved in a live environment, with properties remaining occupied by tenants throughout the process. Although the work was intrusive, we ensured minimal disruption by deploying a dedicated Customer Liaison team.
Impact
Successful delivery of this scheme has made residents’ homes much more comfortable and sustainable, as well as improving health and wellbeing. Heat loss has been reduced in homes by 30 to 40% and energy consumption by 40 to 50%, meaning they now exceed current energy efficiency standards.
Beyond the direct energy efficiency benefits, the project has also delivered significant social value; creating roles for apprentices and providing 10 work experience placements, T-Level opportunities, and various community engagement activities, such as careers talks, volunteering at local organisations, and donating materials to community groups including a kickboxing club and a scout group.
Overall, the scheme has helped to instil a new sense of community pride and has provided residents with homes and a neighbourhood they are happy and proud to be a part of.
