Overview
Equans is working on a £7.5million per year planned refurbishment contract with Together Housing Group.
Windows, doors, kitchens and bathrooms will be upgraded at homes across Yorkshire over a three-year period, including improvements to flats, houses and bungalows in rural and suburban communities.
Our work
Warmer, draught-free homes
New thermally-efficient windows and doors are being installed at around 500 homes per year in Leeds, Sheffield, Barnsley, Harrogate, Brighouse, Huddersfield and the surrounding villages.
The upgrades will reduce heat loss from homes and help to keep energy bills low. The new windows and doors reduce draughts and help reduce outside noise, with trickle vents to allow air to flow and decrease the likelihood of damp and mould.
Facilities fit for today
Approximately 200 kitchens will be replaced by Equans each year, providing attractive, decent and functional living spaces. Tenants are given a choice of contemporary, high-quality worktops and units, splash backs and flooring.
Up to 100 bathrooms will be upgraded annually with new sinks, baths and toilets fitted. Wet rooms are installed where required to improve accessibility and safety.
Mechanical extraction fans are installed in kitchens and bathrooms to help fresh air circulate – this helps to reduce excess moisture in the air, minimising damp.
Across all work, remedial repairs are made and flooring is upgraded with high quality vinyl. Plastering is carried out where it is required and rooms are redecorated to help provide a new sense of pride in the home.
Impact
Part of the community
Equans’s dedicated site management and liaison teams work closely with residents to keep them informed during what can be intrusive work. The team works carefully to meet any specific requirements the resident has and to guide them through the refurbishment process.
Since the contract began, Equans has generated the equivalent of over £2million in social value activities - including local litter picks, clearing areas surrounding a local community centre and donating seasonal items, food and hygiene supplies to nearby food banks.
Experts in refurbishment
Across the scheme, a 98% customer satisfaction rate is consistently recorded, demonstrating the high quality workmanship and service delivered. Due to the homes’ spread-out locations, expert planning has been applied by Equans’s experienced refurbishment teams to ensure efficiency.
Outcomes
Longstanding partnerships
Equans’s established supply chain across Yorkshire helps ensure materials are available in a timely way, even in rural parts of the county.
This work builds on the success of the partnership’s previous refurbishment programme, through which Equans improved over 1,750 homes on behalf of Together Housing Group between 2018 and 2025.
The contract was secured through the Fusion21 Refurbishment, Construction, New Build and Modular Framework - designed to support public sector organisations, including housing, education and healthcare providers to deliver capital work programmes.
