The Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund (WH:SHF) was announced by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) in September 2024 as the successor to the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF).
Through the first two waves of SHDF, including the initial Demonstrator phase in 2020, Equans has supported its partners to secure and deliver almost £235m worth of decarbonisation work.
Leveraging in-house consultancy, technical and design capabilities with specialist skills in project coordination and delivery, Equans is equipped to support its clients in decarbonising their housing stock, ensuring high quality outcomes for all SHDF projects.
Existing housing stock poses a serious threat to the UK’s net zero carbon ambitions, so mass scale retrofit to the built estate is imperative if we are to see these plans come to fruition. The path to decarbonisation can often be challenging, but Equans has the capabilities and models available to push this forward and our success with WH:SHF to date has cemented our reputation as a specialist within the sector.
We have also seen first-hand how strong the appetite is to access this Government funding. It has pushed those in the public and social housing sectors to fully assess their carbon baseline and put plans in motion. Importantly, it has encouraged us as a company, together with our peers, to continue innovating and offer bespoke solutions for customers.
We deliver an industry-leading retrofit service, and so far, we have worked with dozens of partners to deliver millions of pounds of SHDF work. We offer an end-to-end solution, from the initial application through to project delivery, which involves carrying out feasibility studies, identifying areas where the highest carbon and energy savings could be achieved and producing net zero roadmaps. We also create tailored plans to get projects off the ground; and we work alongside our clients to deliver the projects.
Wave 3, under the WH:SHF will offer local authorities, housing associations and registered providers the opportunity to access vital funds that will support them in combatting fuel poverty and tackling climate change in tandem.
