Equans and investor Equitix formed a long-term partnership with the University of Birmingham to provide world-class facilities for its staff and students, transforming the Pritchatts Park student village into a state-of-the-art campus, with the university’s first ever low carbon accommodation, a revitalised social hub and a new multistorey car park.
The ambitious £200 million development included the construction of 496 new energy-efficient student rooms and the extensive refurbishment of 734 existing rooms. Additionally, 13 new fully accessible bedrooms were created, doubling the university's accessible housing capacity. Pritchatts House was transformed into a lively social hub with flexible spaces for various student activities, fostering a vibrant community atmosphere.
Now housing 1,200 students, the Pritchatts Park campus achieved a remarkable 99.7% occupancy rate in its first year, highlighting its appeal and reinforcing the University of Birmingham's status as a leading academic institution. The campus is entirely powered by electricity, with solar PV arrays on the new townhouses and the refurbished Pritchatts House generating over 100,000 kWh of energy annually.
Equans, Equitix, and the University of Birmingham are equity stakeholders in Pritchatts Park, demonstrating a long-term commitment to the facilities.
Additionally, Equans now manages a 50-year hard and soft facilities management and lifecycle works contract at Pritchatts Park, providing ongoing repairs, security, and cleaning services to support student residents.
