To date, Equans has supported public sector partners to secure and deliver £135m worth of important decarbonisation work from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS).
From the initial application through to project delivery – Equans has the experience across all aspects of PSDS from start to finish. Leveraging in-house consultancy, technical and engineering capabilities with specialist skills in delivery, operations and maintenance, Equans is equipped to support public sector clients in decarbonising their estate, ensuring high quality outcomes for all PSDS projects.
To date, we have worked with over 30 public sector organisations to deliver PSDS work – carrying out feasibility studies, identifying areas where the highest carbon and energy savings could be achieved and creating net zero roadmaps. Project plans were then developed by us, which led to full project management and delivery for these clients.
The path to net zero carbon is a challenging one, but we have the capabilities and models in heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency available to push this forward; and our success across the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme has cemented our reputation as a specialist within this market.
Through the previous three phases of PSDS, we have seen first-hand how strong the appetite is to access this funding. It has pushed those in the public sector to fully assess their carbon baseline and put plans in motion. Importantly, it has encouraged us as a company, together with our peers, to continue innovating and offer bespoke solutions for customers.
Phase 4 of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme – grants to become more targeted
In February 2024, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) confirmed Phase 4 of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) which is delivered by Salix Finance, and announced its plans to move away from the current grant allocation process.
Phase 4 will transition to a more targeted means of selecting recipients, ensuring that emissions are being cut as effectively as possible. Projects that are “delivering the best value for money based on the most direct carbon emissions reductions” are the ones that will receive highest priority.
The sector cap system, ensuring a proportionate distribution of funds across different sectors of the public estate, will remain in place.
More details about this allocation process and the opening of the Phase 4 Application Portal will be announced in due course.
