Equans bringing all-season football hub to Grimsby
Works to develop a football ‘hub’ on land in Grimsby are well underway, and the promise of an all-season football and rugby facility being opened in the heart of Grimsby are firmly in sight.
Equans’ Highways Design, Professional services, Building Control and Planning teams in North East Lincolnshire have come together to collaborate on this multi-disciplinary programme of works.
Having identified congestion on the immediate road servicing the facility as an issue in the design phase, Clee Fields’ parking area has been extended providing more designated spaces for visitors. This will keep on-street parking to a minimum, providing a better experience for local road users.
The existing Astro pitch has been removed to make way for the new changing room building and 2 new 3G sports pitchs which will effectively improve the playing surface to the extent of making matches playable all year round. Preparation works have been completed, with the engineered sub-base laid, ready for the pitch to be installed once the supplier is ready to proceed.
A survey and soil investigation has been carried out on the existing grass pitch area to help improve drainage on these surfaces. Subsequent works will also be carried out to the grass pitches to provide an improved play surface. Works will also be carried out to repair and improve the existing site boundary fencing.
The new changing facilities are also taking shape. External and internal walls have been built, defining the facility’s changing spaces, accessible facilities, office space and communal refreshments area. Roofing will be installed in the coming weeks, before the structural construction is complete, ready for the internal finishes to start.
The new facilities will be serviced by Solar PV panels and Air Source Heat Pumps, making the new football hub more environmentally friendly than the existing site, and contributing towards the council’s pledge to become carbon neutral by 2030. LED lighting will also be installed to further improve the site’s green credentials.
The programme of works is set to continue through the year, with the changing room building completed in November & 3G pitches completed in January 2024.
