Overview
A partnership built on strategic alignment Alignment with the council’s priorities ran through the very core of the North East Lincolnshire partnership, and was embedded into service delivery at every stage.
- A ward sponsorship scheme provided a mechanism for Equans to support Ward Councillors in improving services for their constituents. This scheme offered a way to make sure all areas of the borough had their priorities heard.
- Senior members of the Equans team regularly attended high level council meetings, contributing and feeding back to ensure a seamless alignment of service delivery across the contract, whilst facilitating new projects and priorities.
Our work
Embedding local knowledge into long-term vision
With such a close and long-lived history in North East Lincolnshire, Equans was able to apply local knowledge and preferences to the fibre of its works in the area.
For example, works supported by Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) funding saw energy conservation measures
(ECM) installed across the council’s business centre estate. The interventions, which included the installation of air source heat
pumps, solar PV, LED lighting upgrades, double glazing and building insulation improvements, were then incorporated into all
new building works as well as building improvements across the borough.
Exceptional service delivery to keep the borough moving
Working on behalf of the council, Equans teams delivered services covering a broad range of disciplines, from infrastructure and
architectural design to school crossing patrols:
- Property management and facilities management including a NSI gold standard security service.
- Infrastructure and architectural design, developing more sustainable, efficient and vibrant communities where people want to live, work and socialise.
- Highways maintenance, managing 280 miles of local road networks.
- Development services, including an award-winning planning service and arboriculturists.
- Traffic and transport services, including developing school travel plans and encouraging active travel across the borough
Professionally managed projects
Alongside the ongoing delivery of council services; the Equans contract in North East Lincolnshire has also been instrumental in
a vast number of projects to improve the borough for its residents, including:
- Design and project management of the A180 Link Road, a £8.5m road connecting the ports of Grimsby and Immingham.
- Redevelopment of the dis-used former Matthew Humberston School site to house Bursar Primary Academy, including building an internal playground, resurfacing and extending the car park, re-building the school’s old playground and refurbishing the building from top to bottom.
- Remapping, redesign and upgrading the borough’s CCTV network; replacing an old mesh network with highquality cameras and modern line-of-site technology and overhauling the CCTV control room to include a state-ofthe-art video wall and effective lighting.
- Managing the development of Clee Fields into an all-season rugby and football facilities with 3G pitch, improved grass pitches, extended carparking and newly built changing block

Developing a winning team
Throughout the duration of the partnership, over 40 apprentices were given opportunity to learn and develop into their careers with
Equans. Over half of these went on to become permanent staff after finishing their studies.
Equans also invested in ongoing staff development and regularly offered apprenticeship training opportunities to help employees
gain qualifications to improve their future prospects. The North East Lincolnshire partnership completed 1745 hours of training in
2023.
Impact that reaches the heart of the community
Every year, all Equans employees are given two days to spend on social value activities; volunteering to support causes they care for
in the local community.
Recent examples of volunteering opportunities that staff have chosen to support include litter picks, tree planting, helping at local
charity shops and renovation works.
Equans employees on the partnership also voted for one local charity each year to support through fundraising events and
donations. Between 2023-2025, Equans donated over £10,000 to the local hospice, raised through staff fundraising initiatives.
Testimonials
”I joined Equans in 2012 as a Level 2 Business Administration Apprentice. I completed the two year apprenticeship and was lucky enough to secure a job as a Business Centre Assistant and continued learning by completing my Level 3 Business Administration qualification alongside my full time job. Fast forward 9 years, my job role evolved and after a discussion with my manager, it was agreed I could begin a CIM Level 4 Marketing Executive qualification. Halfway through the course a job opportunity arose in the Communications and Marketing team, which I applied for and was successful. Equans has been a fantastic company to work for and has supported me in my learning and progression over the last 12 years, I couldn’t be more grateful.”
