Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme

What is Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS)?

The Government introduced the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) to encourage large businesses to implement energy-saving measures and help to cut UK carbon emissions. Businesses must carry out an audit of their energy-consuming activities and identify cost-effective energy-saving measures once every four years.

Who needs to comply?

How can EQUANS help?

EQUANS has extensive experience of helping businesses to comply with ESOS and realise the savings identified. Our dedicated team is fully qualified to guide your company through the compliance process from start to finish. We will save you time and resources in managing the data collection, analysis and report production required for ESOS compliance. You will have the peace of mind that, with our support, your business will comply fully with all ESOS obligations.

Our specialists will help you collect, quantify and analyse your data, and carry out the energy audits. Based on the audit, we will identify suitable energy-saving measures and give you an indication of the potential cost and energy savings you can achieve.

Your ESOS assessment must be reviewed by a board-level director and approved by an ESOS Lead Assessor. Our assessment will be signed off by one of our Lead Assessors.

Your compliance must also be reported to the Environment Agency. In Scotland the compliance is submitted to the Environmental Agency but enforced by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).

We will produce a report on your company’s current energy consumption and potential for savings, and report your compliance to the Environment Agency.

There is no mandatory requirement for businesses to implement the energy-saving opportunities identified by the ESOS audits. However, they do offer a valuable opportunity for you to reduce your energy use and costs. The measures identified could range from simple ‘quick-fix, fast-return’ solutions, such as installing LED lighting, through to longer-term investment programmes.

Implementing such measures will ensure you see a positive, and potentially significant, return on your investment in ESOS compliance.

The data collected as part of the ESOS assessment is a perfect start on the road to implementing ISO 50001.

By operating to the internationally recognised energy management standard, your organisation fulfils the requirements of ESOS and will be exempt from further ESOS phases and gain the advantages of a fully developed energy management system

EQUANS has trained ISO 50001 implementers and internal auditors so can facilitate your ISO 50001 goals.
